St. Patrick’s Cathedral

The imposing and inspiring beauty of St. Patrick’s Cathedral makes it a favourite visit for worshipers in the New York area, but you don’t have to believe to be awestruck by it.

This is a masterpiece of architectural design, dating back to the Gothic Revival with its intricately detailed marble towers. Standing close to the altar as the light beams in through the ornate rose window, it’s no wonder that just stepping into St. Patrick’s is considered to be a religious experience without a prayer being spoken.

Over the many years St. Patrick’s Cathedral has stood here it’s been visited by the great and good of American society and politics. Every major business leader, film star and serving US President you can think of from the past century have paid their respects at some point. The stunning building is an exhibition of craftsmanship at its finest and has to be seen at close quarters to be truly appreciated.

The guided tour is recommended and is worth more than the suggested $5 donation, but don’t make the mistake of thinking you can turn up on the day and join in. There’s a long queue to get onto one of the tours, with bookings made through the website and confirmation provided weeks ahead of your visit.
