Tall lit up buildings in Times Square NYC

Times Square

Anyone who has dreamed of visiting New York has almost certainly envisioned themselves snapping a selfie in Times Square. More than just a famous intersection, Times Square is a New York City icon and a must-see stop in Manhattan. It’s not nicknamed ‘The Crossroads of the World’ for nothing!

Stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets, the centre of Times Square can be found where Broadway and 7th Avenue intersect. With an estimated 50 million tourists per year, it’s one of the world’s most visited attractions. In just one day, a whopping 330,000 to 460,000 people will pass through Times Square.

Many assume that Times Square is simply a good place for a quick photo opportunity, but that couldn’t be further from the truth (though it is the perfect place to snap a picture with the famous ‘Naked Cowboy’). Times Square is, in fact, a massive entertainment hub, particularly for Broadway shows, and it hosts some of New York’s best restaurants.

Times Square is also the place to be for one of the best-known New Year’s Eve parties in the world. The famous ‘ball drop’ first began in 1907, with the ball symbolizing New Year’s Day. Since then, the ball drop has taken place every year and draws crowds of at least one million people. If you’re in New York on December 31st, you’re definitely in for a treat.
